What Causes Slurred Speech Along With Fever And Painful Lymph Glands?

Brother complaining of glands hurting, speech was slurred, had a fever and blood pressure was 180/70. Blood pressure has come down and so has temperature. Can hardly walk on his own. What could be the problem? He left the house fine this morning and this came all of a sudden.

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

Fever and painful lymph nodes indicates Infection . Infection could be either Viral or bacterial infection . But the symptoms of Slurred Speech points the problem towards the problem .

The brain problem could be related to the infection or it could be an independent problem. The possibilities are :
1. Improper Blood supply to certain areas of brain.
2. Bleeding inside the brain.
3. Spread of infection to the brain .

It requires certain investigations and Brain scanning to know the cause of the problem. I advise you to admit him to a hospital and take a Neurologist consult.

He shall require these tests :

MRI Brain , Complete Hemogram, Mono test, IgM Typhi Dot , Serum Creatinine , Serum Electrolytes , CSF analysis.

Do let me know what does these reports show .

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr. Michelle Gibson's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The possible conditions would be influenced by his age, general health, presence of any other illnesses (eg diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure), presence of any additional symptoms.

Infection is possible with a history of fever , weakness and painful glands.
Slurred speech, however, raises the possibility of a stroke though this is not normally associated with a fever.

It would be best for him to visit his doctor for an assessment.

I hope this helps
