What Causes Slurred Speech And Dizziness?

MY BOYFRIEND IS 60 YRS OLD, ALWAYS HEALTHY, DOES NOT DO DRUGS. AT 5AM WOKE UP STUTTERING THE SAME WORDS FOR ABOUT 3 MIN. SAYING, OR TRYING TO SAY, NOT AGAIN . HE WASN T DIZZY, BUT WAS SPINNING AROUND HIS ROOM IN ONE PLACE. HE THOUGHT IT WAS A DREAM OR SOMETHING, DIDN T KNOW WHAT ELSE IT COULD BE. HE DOES HAVE VERY VIVID DREAMS AND TALKS IN HIS SLEEP. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 10AM. HE WAS WIDE AWAKE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES KEPT STUTTERING THE SAME WORDS, NOT AGAIN --- BUT MORE LIKE NOT NOT NOT NOT AG AG AG AG AG AGAIN OVER AND OVER. HE WAS NOT DIZZY, SLEEPY OR OVERTIRED. NO FATIGUE AND NO OTHER TYPE OF SYMPTOMS. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS. HE LIVES IN A VERY REMOTE AREA OF COLORADO, HIGH ALTITUDE, AND HAS BEEN LIVING THERE FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS. WHAT COULD THIS BE?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have slurred speech and dizziness . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like middle ear infection , labyrinthitis , anxiety disorder , iron deficiency , diabetes, type 2 , sinusitis and sometimes cardiac problem can also give such signs . Stress can also be the reason for such symptoms. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist to rule out ear problem and sinusitis . Doctor will examine ear with otoscope and order CT scan for sinusitis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like genatmicin or amoxicillin , decongestant or expectorant . Apply warm compresses to external neck .Doctor may also refer you to cardiologist for cardiac problem . For now drink green tea with ginger thrice a day.
