What Causes Slurring Of Speech When On Life Support For Respiratory Disorder?

I RECENTLY WAS PUT ON LIFE SUPPORT.....APPARENTLY IN THE ER I HAD RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS; A FEW DAYS LATER, I WOKE.....VERY VERY SURPRISED TO SEE WHERE I WAS.



MY QUESTION: I HAVE HAD SOME DIFFICULTY SPEAKING.....I KNOW WHAT I WASNT TO SAY, BUT THE WORDS AREN'T "THERE". I GET FLUSTERED AND GIBBERISH COMES SPILLING OUT. WHAT HAPPENED?

Thanks for your question on HCM. You seemed to come out from respiratory failure and weaned successfully from ventilator. There are so many causes for slurred speech in ventilated patient. Most common is hampered blood supply in the brain in the process of intubation and put on mechanical ventilation. Others are critical care neuropathy, electrolyte imbalance, uremic neuropathy etc. So many causes but treatment remains same. Vigorous physiotherapy and speech therapy is needed.
