What Causes Small Hole In Outside Upper Part Of Ear?

My daughter was born with a small hole in the outside upper part of the ear. I recently did some research and realized that she has what is call Prearicular Sinus. Occasionally, a smelly discharge comes out of the hole. I assume from the sinuses? Is this something that needs to be fixed or only if she begins having problems with it? Also, my father and his twin brother both had the same condition, with no problems.

Hello,

Preauricular sinus may be genetically acquired or non genetically acquired.

If it is not infected then nothing to worry. If it is infected means need treatment with antibiotics or surgical removal.

Probably she may be having infected sinus need to be treated with antibiotics.

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
