What Causes Small Lump In Neck With History Of Having Costochondritis?
I m having discomfort in my neck, and I am able to feel something underneath my adam s apple. I m not sure if it s my thyroid or cricoid or something. I don t know if it s normal, but it s causing me to have anxiety and to suspect the worse. When I run my finger down my neck, i feel my adam s apple and then about an inch below my adam s apple, there s another small horizontal bump. When i touch it, i get discomfort in the area. I also was diagnosed with costochondritis a few weeks ago and i ve read that it can radiate to your neck. Basically, what i m asking is should I be concerned by the second bump. Can everybody feel it? Is it inflammed from the costo? Is it a normal thing that everybody has?
There is nothing worry, the horizontal bump you are talking about is your cricoid cartilage. There will be some discomfort if we repeatedly palpate or press on that. Just leave it be confident. You need to see your doctor only if it enlarges or pain replaces discomfort, even without touching.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
