What Causes Small Red Bump In The Mouth?

I suddenly awoke with a small red bump on the roof of my mouth 7 days ago. Is painful to touch with my tongue or when I swallow. Was very red at first on and around the bump but has lessened in redness over time and gargling with salt and water or hydrogen peroxide. It has gotten smaller as well but is still painful. It looks like there is an opening in the center of it. This came about 5 days after being on a 12 day regimen of prednisone. What could it be? Who should I consult?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello

Please dont worry as it loos like that you may be having either an apthous ulcer or an infected mucus cyst. please dont worry as most of the time these dont need treatment and will subside with warm salt gargles , so i would like you to continue them. If however it enlarges or you develop fever, please consult your ent doctor for further advice and treatment.

Thanks
