What Causes Smelly Stools And Abdominal Gas After Taking A High Lithium?
I have been getting soft stools (smell slightly worse) that stick to the toilet now for about a month. I go once a day on average, and I do not have any pain or excessive gas. This happened to me a few years ago for a period of 9 months, because I was taking a high Lithium dosage (1200mg + 200mg Lamictal) for bipolar disorder. I reduced to 900mg and the issues went away. I now only take 600mg a month and nothing else. I am a 33 year old male, tall and slim, a vegetarian of 21 years, get good exercise, and eat high levels of spicy food with habanero chiles. I do have a hectic schedule since I m in the last month of graduate school. Tried to provide as much relevant info as I could.
If the stools stick to the toilet, it may be due to mucus in your stools, which indicate some infection may be amoebiasis or giardiasis etc. In your case, the stool should be tested for the presence of any cyst or ova and should be treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
