What Causes Sneezing, Sore Throat, Swollen Glands In Neck And Heavy Breathing?

I sneezed a few weeks ago and my throat hurt instantly like I had a very sore throat, felt like someone punched me in the throat . By the next morning my neck was swollen and sore to touch, I went to emerg and they checked me out but said they couldn't see anything. Said it might be acid reflux and gave me a script for an anti acid and said I'd need to see an ENT Specialist if it didn't resolve. It subsided but whenever I sneeze or breath heavy during exercise it comes back, not as bad as it was for the first few days but bad enough to cause me concern. Any idea what's wrong?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sneezing, sore throat, swollen glands in neck and heavy breathing which seems to be due to persistence of respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics penicillin or amoxicillin or anti viral drug depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants and anti inflammatory. For pain and swelling you should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food substances , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages. Keep brushing twice daily and use Listerine mouth wash. Do flossing twice a week . Keep drinking plenty of water

Hope your concern has been resolved.
