What Causes Soft Stools And Chemical Odor In Stool?

My 2.5 year old has had poops that smell like a chemical (isopropyl or acetone maybe? a cleaner smell?) for two days. They are soft but not runny or diarrhea. He s in good health, very active. He had what we thought was food poisoning about a week ago where he was vomiting off and on until 4 am but recovered within two days. Just wondering if I need to take him to the doctor immediately or if I should wait to see if the strange smell goes away?

Hi,

It is due to the impact of infection as you say of food poisoning. It will take few days for GIT to return normal. To speed up recovery feed him light meals, use boiled water, maintain good hygiene, clean him after stools and urine. There is no need to worry. After one week he will be okay however if there us no improvement in couple of days then take him to emergency room.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
