General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Folliculitis or seborrheic dermatitis can be the cause. Folliculitis refers to the bacterial infection of the root of hair follicle which presents as bumps on hairy regions like scalp, arms or face. Treatment includes antibiotics oral or topical. Seborrhic dermatitis refers to inflammation and irritation of skin caused by excess oil and sebum production. This in turn can irritate the scalp and cause flakes or bumps along with itchy scalp. Ketoconazole and zinc pyrithrone containing shampoo or lotion should be used to wash hair every other day after soaking the hair for 5 minutes.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
