Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have a mild sore throat after performing oral sex on my girlfriend who is still a virgin. I m worried I might have oral gonorrhea, but to my knowledge, you have to already be infected with an STI to pass one. I m not sure if this is correct, but I would like to know. The sore throat flared up in the middle day, but it has went down considerably and I m not producing as much as saliva in my mouth as before. What do you think it might be and do you recommend getting tested?
Sore throat can be caused after having oral sex, do not have oral sex if anyone of you are suffering from cold or flu. The virus that causes cold can spread infection to the genitals and you may get infected. Oral sex can spread other infections, like herpes, syphilis, and hepatitis B. Use of condoms and other barriers can make oral sex safer.
Because other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) also can be passed by oral sex, use a dental dam when a girl is receiving oral sex or a condom when a guy is receiving oral sex to protect against infection. It is also easy to catch a cold or other kind of infection from kissing or being close to someone. You can get an STD like chlamydia or gonorrhea in your throat if you do oral sex. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
