I was with a new partner last Sat. I gave him oral sex and he was pretty rough on me. After a few days I started experiencing symptoms of a sore throat, particularly the right tonsil, and spiked a 103 degree fever. I went to the ER and they did a rapid strep test which came back negative. I was started on po amox tid and after a few days still no relief. The R tonsil feels like it s getting larger and more painful As time goes on. Not sure what to do at this point.
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. Sore throat is often caused by infections either with bacteria or virus. Following a oral sex this could be due to either a STD or non-STD organism. Non STD sore throat also is so common to get with oral sex as human genitals can have a lot of bacterial flora. A culture and sensitive test along with a throat swab smear test for STD and non STD organism would reveal the cause and treatment with appropriate antibiotics. Viral infections will get set settled spontaneously after a week. Get well soon. Dr S.Murugan
