What Causes Sore Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?
I have a sore throat that started on thursday and it has since moved up to the back of my tongue. It is such horrible pain that I can't really swallow. I went to the clinic today and they said it was just a virus. What could this be? It hurts so bad. I am an 18 year old male, about 6'2".
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat and difficulty in swallowing which seems to be due to pharyngitis and could be due to inflammation of tonsils.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a throat swab culture as well as blood tests and immunoglobulin G levels to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly. You should also do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day and avoid cold beverage and spicy food. Do steam inhalation and suck throat lozenges. You can sip plenty of warm water. In case of bacterial infection antibiotics can be taken along with all other remedies as advised above.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
