Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Wednesday 3 am - woke up with a severe raw sore throat and so much phlegm that I was choking on it. Hurt too bad to swallow, so started spitting it out. Ears hurt and my teeth hurt so bad it felt like they were going to fall out. / Thurs 3 pm, congestion moved into my head. Throat is no longer raw, but still hurts a little to swallow. ears and teeth no longer hurt. I've felt too weak and bad to get up and drive to Dr. Now realized that I have hardly ate or sipped on very much fluid. / I'm thinking now I just have a head cold and have Mucus ER, cold and flu day quill and night quill. Do you think that a Dr. visit could treat me better or that I may be over the worst of it and that I should just treat the symptoms, get fluids in me and be better in a few days?
It is possible ,since it is likely a viral illness, that you may improve and be better in a few days.
Most cold/flu tends to last 7 to 14 days. Rarely a cough can persist after all of the other symptoms have resolved, this is called post viral cough.
The over the counter cough and cold meds would have a cough suppressant, decongestant and antihistamines that would help with your symptoms. Rest and fluids would also be important.
If there is no significant worsening you can continue treatment at home.
I hope this helps
