What Causes Sore Throat And Pain While Swallowing?

Had a very sore throat (still have tonsils), hard to swallow, felt very weak, hot and cold, and a fever of 102. Went to the doctor, test for strep came up negative, however was prescribed a Z-Pack for 5 days. Most symptoms cleared up the next day, sore throat cleared up on last day of meds. However sore throat is already back one day later, and about as bad as before. Very sore, hurts to swallow, and feels like there is a lump in my throat. Any ideas?

Hi

Welcome in HCM

I understand your concer as unfortunately your throat is too sore to take anything orally. No doubt you have completed treatment for sore throat and fever a day before. Your clinical history point to suspect for-

1- Reinfection of tonsils and throat.

2- Possibility of pharyngitis with GERD.

Since your probelm had came back with more severity therefore following investigations are supposed to be essential in the planning of treatment.

A- Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

B- X-ray paranasal sinuses.

C- Blood sugar ( fasting and post parendial).

With the help of inferences of above investigations and their co-relation with clinical finding correct diagnosis and treatment may be planed.
