What Causes Sore Throat And Red Tonsils?

I have had a sore throat (swollen glands, red tonsils) and conjunctivitis for 15 days. Both the rapid strep test and the comprehensive throat test came back negative. Also I had a blood test for mono which came back negative. The blood test also checked my white platelets which were normal. What virus do you think I have and when will it go away? I am a 38 years old female, 105 pounds, with otherwise great health.

Hi,

Noted the history of sore throat, red tonsils, swollen glands and conjunctivitis but the strep throat and other tests have come negative.
Surely yes, this may be viral infection but lasting for more than 15 days indicates a possibility of secondary bacterial infection.Hence I would suggest you the following:
Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation, repeat necessary tests and get started on a proper prescription based antibiotics, anti-inflammatory symptomatic and supportive management.
Also use proper eye drops nad care of eyes.
There may be eosinophilia and then a short course of oral steroids along with antihistamine may help for an early and complete recovery.
Take rest.
Avoid crowded places and people with viral infection.
Take plenty of oral fluids, maintain hydration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant,
