What Causes Sore Throat And Severe Headache?

My 19 year old neice texted me saying that she s been feeling horrible for a week...her head is really hurting, sore throat, her body feels warm (no thermometer) and she s lighrheaded like heck. I suggested Tylenol and ibuprofen...she says she s been taking these but not feeling any better and has had to stay out of work?

Hi,

A sore throat, fever and headache are more suggestive of viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).

The painkiller only will not cure this. So tell her to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief.
1. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
2. Avoid oily and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Avoid hard to chew food.
3. Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.
4. Take Levocetirizine and Paracetamol combination.

She will mostly improve with all these in 2-3 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
