What Causes Sore Throat And Swelling In The Neck?

I have a very slight sore throat and some neck swelling, sometimes it causes me to gag a little ( I have a very easily triggered gag reflex apparently) There are parts of my throat that are sore, all around the esophagus, though most of it feels like muscle soreness. I have used the Wed MD symptom checker and it seems to point to either strep throat or vial pharyngitis. It has been going on for about 20 days, and early on I was seen and the doctor thought it was tonsilitis, and treated me for it with antibiotics. That seemed to help for a short time and then the symptoms came back. I have been treating it with allergy meds and cough drops and it seems to help, but thats all I ve found to help so far

Hi,

The symptoms are consistent with sore throat.

You can start on a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxclav.

Do warm saline gargles and take analgesics like Acetaminophen in case of pain.

Generally, the symptoms will settle in three to four days and in case of persistent symptoms, you can consult a GP and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
