Hello,
Your son in law, is experiencing
blister rash on left side of the head. He is hurting on the left side of the ear and head. Now he is also experiencing
sore throat. Since he has a blister rash on the head, it can be
folliculitis or allergic skin reaction. Folliculitis is commonly caused due to damage to the hair follicles, leaving them vulnerable to infection. He is hurting due to pain, soreness and inflammation as infection can spread to the
inner ear also. Infection also easily spreads by doing simple tasks like scratching or rubbing the head.
He is suggested to take
Acetaminophen, one SOS stat for relief. He should not scratch or touch the area affected, avoid wearing caps / hats, he should stay away from use of hair products. Applying
Cortisone cream or
Neosporin ointment on the affected area is helpful. He should use anti bacterial soap and gently wash the affected area on the head twice daily. Warm compress is helpful to soothe the scalp and drain any pus. He is suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, if needed by an ENT and get treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
