General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the sore throat despite of taking Ceftibuten antibiotic.

Because the antibiotic Ceftibuten kills the bacteria by inhibiting their cell wall synthesis and hence is effective in the treatment of respiratory infections caused by bacteria which have cell wall like streptococci, H. influenza, etc.
However, it is not effective in the infections caused by atypical bacteria which do not have cell walls like Mycoplasms, Legionella, etc.

For such infections antibiotics like Clarithromycin or Ofloxacin are found to be effective because they kill the bacteria by inhibiting the DNA synthesis.
During the course of antibiotic therapy, you must avoid smoking.

Hope to have answered your query.
