Greetigs, 55 year old male, with what I thought was a sore throat but close examination looks like red area on the back and side of my tongue. It looks similar as if I chewed on it but is so far back I don t see that being possible. I can live with the discomfort but want to know if it could be something of a serious nature. It has been about a week and still present has one blood blister in the center equal to what appears when I bite my cheek accidentally. Thanks
You are suffering from inflammation of the tongue. The symptom is indicative of injury within the mouth, trauma, bite; dental or oral infection, Sjögren’s syndrome, vitamin deficiency (vitamin B-12); yeast infection, sexually transmitted infections, etc. Get clinically examined by a dentist to get treated any oral infection or dental problem. Get STD tests done so that treatment can be started if reports come positive.
You can take vitamin B12 rich food or supplements to make up for the deficiency. Taking anti-inflammatory drug, ibuprofen (Advil) will help to minimize inflammation and reduce pain. Good oral hygiene would help reduce tongue inflammation symptom. Be sure to brush and floss your teeth every day. Stop smoking and avoid taking alcohol.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
