What Causes Soreness And Burning In Tongue, gums And Lips?
I am taking care of my 81 yr old mom. Her tongue burns and is bright red and swollen as are her gums. She had been on some IV anti bionics, but is no longer on any antibiotic. She s been off them for 5 days and is no longer on the magic mouthwash. They thought it was thrush and had been treating her for that after being hospitalize with pneumonia. She is having difficulty drinking and can t eat. Her throat hurts and her lips are red and chapped. She went in and was hydrated on Friday. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The soreness and burning sensation in the tongue, gums and lips can be because of the aphthous ulcer secondary to drugs or stress. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. Mean while you can take topical anesthetic like lignocaine, topical analgesic like choline salcylate, and topical steroids like triamcinolone acetonide. Do saline gargling. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
