What Causes Soreness And Itching In Elbow After Donating Blood?
I donated blood two days ago. The inside of my elbow, where they inserted the needle, is sore to the touch, and the skin in the area is itchy. I ve donated many times before and have never experienced this. The man who inserted the needle said they were using something other than alcohol and iodine to sterilize the area I m wondering if I m having an allergic reaction. I feel as though I should keep my arm elevated, or put an ice pack on it.
I can understand your concern for soreness and itching in elbow after donating blood.
Let me first reassure you that the soreness and itching in elbow after donating blood is quite normal and natural process. It is due to the fact that the needle sometimes hurts the vein and that vein carries sensation of pain through nerve.
Many a times we also find mild to moderate bruising if the needle is pricked deep. AS the bore of the needle is quite large so it is quite normal to find such kind of and itching in elbow after donating blood.
In my patients I generally prescribe a simple pain killer such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain sensation. If at all the pain is increasing then can meet a family physician for best help.
All the best.
