What Causes Soreness And Swelling In The Wrist And Hand?
My daughter is almost ten and her wrist/ hand all surrounding the base of the right thumb is very sore. It s somewhat swollen aNd there is a vein that is very pronounced and colored compared to the other wrist. What s wrong? It s very tender and sore.
1. Is there itching over the pronounced vein?
2. Are bluish changes observable over the bulging vein?
3. Ask her whether there was any trauma or got hurt while playing?
4. Is she on any medication?
You should have given a picture which can make the diagnosis very likely for us.
Meanwhile, you can:
1. cold compress on that area
2. Resting the thumb
3. RICE therapy: Resting, Icing, Compression, Elevation of the thumb.
4. NSAIDs or pain killers can be given in pediatric dosage.
Post another question with the results of test results or consult another doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
