What Causes Soreness And Tightness Behind Both Knees?

The back of both knees is extremely sore and tight. Often, after sitting for a while, I have trouble standing up to get going! Is something wrong with my hamstrings? I am very active getting settled in a new home and playing pickle ball for 1.5 hours three times a week. Any exercises that would help to eliminate the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing pain, soreness and tightness in both knees. You are an active person playing pickleball often. Your symptoms are indicative of muscle strain or sprain. Mild hamstring injuries or strain respond well to pain relieving medications like Naproxen or Combiflam, one stat when required for relief. Give rest. Applying ice is helpful. Consider bandaging your thigh with an elastic wrap to limit swelling and movement. Keep your feet elevated on a stool while sitting or on pillow when on bed to reduce swelling, soreness or inflammation.

You are suggested to get connected to a Physical therapist. There are many exercises that you will be taught to do to keep your hamstrings strong and pain free. However, you are suggested to do regular stretch exercises and walking, Get clinically examined by a GP. You should get all tests, blood workouts and investigations done to rule out OA, RA, Gout, bakers cyst, knee bursitis, etc. If any of the above said ailments are detected, you will be treated accordingly. Switch to healthy eating and healthy lifestyle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
