What Causes Soreness In Buttocks?

I started feeling sore like I had a bruise on my butt... I imagine this is the soreness I would feel if I bruised my tail bone. I checked in a mirror and I do have some discoloring in that area. But I don't remember falling or landing on my tail bone. I'm on birth control pills but have not been sexually active. What could this random soreness be?
