What Causes Soreness In Foot Post Achilles Tendon Repair Surgery?

I am 7 weeks post op, total Achilles tendon repair in my right foot. The cast just came off and I am wearing a boot and walking with crutches. Every time my foot is below my heart it swells and turns very red. It gets very sore from the middle of my foot to my toes. I assume from the swelling. I cannot be upright for more than 30-60 minutes before I have to lay back down and put my foot up again. Is this normal?

Hello and welcome.

7 weeks post-op you should be on the road to recovery, but if you are still experiencing swelling when you lower your leg from below the level of your heart, this is nothing serious to worry about as you have not completely recovered.

Don't worry about the swelling too much, it is normal for some amount of swelling after such a surgery. It will all subside when you start walking and weight bearing.

Best wishes.
