What Causes Soreness In The Body And Lump In The Neck?
HI! My daughter is 17 years old and is complaining that her body is sore, her neck, not her throat, is sore and feels like it has a lump right in the front. She says it hurts when she touches the front of her neck and when she moves her neck. At first I thought she might have the flu (and that may be it), but not sure. She does not have a fever, and has not vomited. She is just getting over a cold that she had for about a week. Should we go to the doctor? Any advice? Thank you! Melissa Fletcher
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The symptoms your daughter is experiencing is suggestive of Infectious mononucleosis (commonly called mono), which is a viral infection. Blood testing can confirm the diagnosis.
There is nothing much to be worried as it will subside on itself. However, the infection can sometimes cause spleen enlargement, in which case contact sports should be avoided.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
