What Causes Soreness In The Corner Of Mouth With History Of Having Canker Sore?

In the corner of my mouth, my gums feel a little sore and a little rough. Almost like there s a string of skin there. It s reminiscent to a time when I had a canker sore on my gums, so I m not sure if that s what it is, but it s also red. I brush and floss regularly and usually use mouthwash in my routine.

Hello,

You are suffering from soreness in the corner of your mouth, it feels sore and is red. You have a history of having canker sores. Your symptoms may be indicative of low levels of B vitamins, iron or protein, smoking, stress, immune system disorders, such as HIV. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are fungal or yeast infections in the mouth, such as thrush. Wearing a face mask.

Soreness in the corners of the mouth can be caused by angular cheilitis, it leads to painful, cracked sores. Canker sores are caused due to the deficiency in nutrients such as vitamin B-12, iron, or folate. It can be caused by the use of toothpastes or mouthwashes that contain sodium lauryl sulfate. It can also occur due to stress, acidic, oily-spicy food, a reaction to foods such as chocolate, nuts, or spicy foods.

Get clinically examined and treated. You will be treated with steroids, gels, mouthwashes, over-the counter medicines to control pain, soreness and inflammation. Your treating doctor may recommend cautery, which involves using a chemical or instrument to destroy or burn the canker sore, if underlying health problems or nutrient deficiencies are leading to it. You can start taking multivitamins, once daily after food.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
