What Causes Soreness In The Eyes While On Triamcinolone?

I have a 5 year old boy who was prescribed with triamcinolone ointment for his eczema and I have been applying this for amost 3 weeks now. The eczema got better but I noticed that my son complains of sore eyes, sometimes itching that the eyedrop the doctor prescribed for his allergies really stings accordinbg to him. Is there a possibility that the ointment causes his eyes to have soreness or severe itching? You know kids,he scratches his eczema and maybe rub his eyes too. I have just read about one of the side effect of the ointment which is vision problem. Thanks for your help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned but the itching and soreness of his eyes are likely due to his allergies.
Persons with eczema tend to also have food allergies , eye allergies, nasal symptoms ( sneezing, congestion, etc).

It is important to remember that the trimcinolone is a steroid cream, steroids reduce inflammation. They are used to treat allergic responses, they do not cause allergic response (itching etc) because they suppress the body's immune system.

Because he itches at his eyes, he may be irritating the surface, this would cause stinging with the eye drops.
IN addition to allergy eye drops, he may need artificial tears to help clear allergens from the eyes.

I hope this helps
