What Causes Soreness In The Thumbs And Trigger Finger?

I am experincing two sore thumbs, the left has a trigger finger snap to it and hurts the most. I have the problem worst in the morning although it has persisted for weeks now. The pad or little bone at the base between the thumb is the sore spot. I can bend both but the ,eft snaps when i do. Could it be a posture issue? After raking yesterday it hurt less and woked better for a while.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There can be soreness in the thumbs due to exertion, undue compression, posture or other reasons.

The trigger finger can be due to repeated or forceful movements, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, gout or other issues. These causes need to be ruled out after thorough clinical examination.

I would suggest to avoid forceful movements, do hot water fomentations with raking for 2 to 3 days and onsult your PCP as per the progress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
