What Causes Soreness In The Upper Thighs?

I m 53, 5 4 and 105 pounds. I m active, walk a lot, hike, in pretty good shape for my age. For several years I ve been experiencing soreness and pain in my upper thighs, worse after sitting for a while, especially cross legged. When I stand up I sometimes can barely walk for a few seconds because it feels so stiff and sore. It doesn t bother me as much when walking or hiking. Stiff when I get up in the morning.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is possible that you have developed osteoarthritis of the hip joints. Stiffness and difficulty in walking can be a sign of osteoarthritis. I would advise you to get yourself examined by an Orthopaedician. He may advise a few X-Rays or MRI to make a proper diagnosis. Meanwhile you can take an over the counter painkiller like Advil to relieve pain. Also avoid sitting cross legged as it will aggravate your condition. Thank you and wishing you good health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
