What Causes Spasms In The Abdomen After A Workout?

After my abdominal workout I cleared my throat causing sudden movement in my abdominal area. This was followed shortly by my lower abs "seizing up" or tightening up. I rubbed some topical magnesium mixed with water on it and seemed to calm a little. Is this just a reaction of muscles in a tired state? Hope not a strain. My ab muscles are in pretty good shape from exercising for past 2 months. No swelling or redness. What do you think? Will this pass with rest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my clinical experience, this is post exertion muscle twitch, which gets recovered with local application of ice, rest and analgesic medications.
* For future prevention, I request you to work out the exertion limit level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
