What Causes Spasms Under The Rib Cage After Engaging The Core Muscles?

Hi, I will start by saying a cat scan has come back clear and normal. No cancers and not hernia, nor any tears or holes found. My problem is that when I engage my core I can get a cramp like spasm which causes something to bulge out under my right / upper rib cage. It is really horrible and makes me want to faint until I push it back in. I have split stomach muscles from pregnancy, and crampy feeling in my back and general core weakness. My ribs in general feel rubbery. Thanks for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have had your CAT scan & reports are normal. Presently you are experiencing cramp in the rib cage & general weakness, you are suffering from muscle strain, pulled muscle, bruised ribs. Other medical conditions that can cause such symptoms are Costochondritis, MS, Pleuritic chest, GERD, IBS, etc. You are suggested to get physically examined by a GP. Get assessed, get treated. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
