What Causes Spotting After Periods?

I had my period finishing on the 25th jan but seen to from today (3rd feb) be having a second period.started by spotting and is much lighter but darker.I've heard this can be a sign of pregnancy?I am on the pill but did forget to take one on the 31st of jan.I have had sex several times with my partner in-between these periods.please help
