Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Spotting And Bleeding During Pregnancy?
I have been potting for a week now ....some days quiet heavely but then it mellows by the time I go to bed. I have been to the E.R. When it first started and blood work and ultrasound showed a healthy fetus with a heartbeat , but I m worried cause is it normal for spotting to last this long ??
Since you are unable to deduce your Trimester of Pregnancy, following is my opinion:
1. Any bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy should be reported immediately to your doctor or midwife since any passage of blood before 24 weeks of pregnancy is called a threatened miscarriage or threatened abortion.
2. Consult an OB/GYN doctor to exclude causes of bleeding during First Trimester like:
- breakthrough bleeding
- implantation bleeding
- threatened or actual miscarriage
- ectopic pregnancy
- placenta previa/uterine fibroids
3. Although a miscarriage can be emotionally painful one cannot prevent it but can take measures to take care of yourself both emotionally and physically, but remember in most cases, bleeding in early pregnancy settles spontaneously and the pregnancy continues unharmed.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
