What Causes Spotting During Periods?

Hi. I was suppose to start my period on Nov. 9th and I started brown spotting on the 8th. I had light spotting untill the 11th. No period though. All negative tests. Could that have been my period? My periods are normally like clock work. Should I get a blood test?
