hey, i just found out two days ago that i am pregnant and this is my 6th week. i am continuously having brown secretion .. my doctor said that the sac is bigger than baby. my next scan is after two weeks, i am worried that this brown discharge in not stopping. is this normal?
Hello, and I hope I can provide you with some reassurance.
Ten to fifteen percent of normal women bleed or spot during the first trimester of pregnancy.
If your ultrasound showed that your fetus has a heartbeat, then your miscarriage risk is low, no matter what the size of the sac is.
So as long as the discharge remains brown and there is no heavy blood, this can be a common finding in a normal pregnancy. Brown discharge is just a very small amount of blood that is not fresh coming out. So you most likely are not bleeding actively because your discharge is brown and it can take a while for it to all flow out of your vagina. I know it is hard to wait and see what happens, but the discharge does not indicate anything abnormal at this time.
I hope this answered your question, and good luck with your pregnancy.
Take care, Dr. Brown
