What Causes Spotting During Pregnancy?

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have started some light bleeding three days ago. Not enough to show on my panties, just light pink on the toilet paper. Today it seemed to stop, but just now when I used the bathroom, there was a small blood clot on the toilet paper. It was about the size of my thumbnail. Should I assume I am miscarrying, or is it possible to have these symptoms while still having a successful pregnancy?

well, this could just be an implantation bleed. the best way to confirm the viability of the fetus would be to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound and appreciate the heart beat of the fetus in situ. and also corroborating the crown rump length with the period of gestation. the location / presence of any sub chorionic bleed may also be ascertained and depending on its presence if required progestational support may be started for you .regards
