What Causes Spotting Followed By Heavy Bleeding?

Hello, Around the second week of this month , I thought I had my period but I only bled lightly for the first day and brown for the next two. By the fourth day , I was back to normal. Prior to and within those two weeks I ve had unprotected sex. My period came a week late, pregnancy test came up neg so but I was relieved.I am now bleeding heavier than normal - way heavier and it s jelly like bright red blood. Can you please tell me what s wrong ? I m usually a heavy bleeder between the day 1-3. It s now day four and it s been really hard to keep the blood flow under control. Especially when standing up.

Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. If you always have regular cycles, you had the intercourse during the fertile period and hence have high chance of pregnancy. Home pregnancy tests read well 3-7 days after the missed period. If you performed the test earlier, you can get a false report. You may be having a chemical pregnancy. To clarify, you can get the estimation of the serum beta-hCG to confirm/exclude pregnancy. To arrest the bleeding, styptics should be used. Please see a specialist for further management.
