What Causes Spotting With Blood Clots After Sex?

I am 26 and this is my first pregnancy. My cycle is too inconsistent to determine how far along I am. The pregnancy test said I was 2 to 3 weeks on Feb. 27. On March 2 I started mild spotting; brown to pink. It started to subside on March 8, so I had sex. Since then, the spotting has turned bright red. I passed some small clots today. I am scheduled for an ultrasound this Wednesday for dating. The bleeding is mild and I have had no pain or discomfort. Should I get in touch with my doctor before the ultrasound? Is there something I should be doing besides taking it easy?

Hallow Dear,

Yes, you have to report to your Gynaecologist ASAP.

Your pregnancy was confirmed by pregnancy test. Then you started bleeding, meaning thereby that you had threatened abortion. At this juncture only you should have reported to your Gynaecologist.

Even though the bleeding stopped after few days, it was a brown bleeding suggesting the possibility of non-viable baby inside your uterus (Missed abortion). Moreover, the bleeding has started again after sexual intercourse.

You should not ignore these events. Get the ultrasonography done to ascertain the status of pregnancy. If the pregnancy is viable, you will have to take proper rest with treatment of Gynaecologist. You may be prescribed some progesterone preparation. If the pregnancy is non-viable, it needs to be terminated without delay to avoid any serious complications like excessive bleeding, infection, etc.

So please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP.

I hope this helps and guides you.
