What Causes Squelching Sound Along With Mild Pain In Knee?

I am 60. In the past three months I have experienced a squelching sound in my knees when going up stairs. I understand this is probably wear and tear but can anything be done? There is a mild pain but I feel the problem is worsening each week. Any ideas? Angela

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Angela.

It is most probably an issue of the joints or the ligaments in the region. A meniscus or ligament wear and tear is most probably the cause and can be rectified with the help of an arthroscopy and reconstruction. Please speak to an orthopedic surgeon for the same.

Best wishes
