Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been to my dr 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Last visit, without X-ray they said I have pleurisy. They put me on steroids and another round of antibiotics. Went back to work today. For 2 weeks I ve had a stabbing pain in my rt side under my breast and down. Today I barely coughed and it felt like something popped. I am in awful, almost unbearable. I m suppose to fly from TX to Seattle Friday. Not sure where to go from here.
Pleurisy can cause severe chest pain that is worse with deep breaths and coughing but as you suggested, an x ray should have been done to take a look at your chest.
Pleurisy can have different causes so your doctor may want to eliminate the more serious though rare causes.
Anti inflammatory pain medication would also be needed in addition to the steroids and antibiotics. Any additional treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps
