Hello,

You have history of having high BP. You have not mentioned what medicines you have been taking. You have not mentioned if you are in diet control. Stabbing pain in the chest experienced by a hypertensive person is commonly indicative of developing cardiac problem. Though sometimes it may be due to GERD/ heartburn. If the pain is due to heartburn you can take PPIs, pantoprazole-40, one SOS when required, it will give you relief.

However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a Cardiologist, get blood works, Echo, ECG, stress test, X-ray, urinalysis, CBC, blood glucose, lipid function tests, etc., done to detect any developing coronary artery disease. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, if overweight, control your weight. If diabetic, keep your blood sugar level under control at all cost. Avoid taking salty snacks, restrict your salt intake to avoid water retention in the body and hence pitting edema in your ankles or legs.

Switch to healthy diet, take home made nutritious boiled food cooked in olive oil, avoid trans fat, oily spicy junk food, full fat dairy products, red meat, etc. You can take well cooked whole cereals, fruits, veggies, dry fruits, lean meat, small fish, etc. Stay away from addictions (alcohol, smoking, recreational drugs, etc.). Do walking regularly in the morning and evening.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
