My son is 16 he just came back from school with stomach pain it feels like stabbing pain middle to the left side. With it he has saliva coming up where he says he needs to spit out. Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are clearly indicate a condition known as acid reflux disease OR gastroentistinal reflux disease (GERD). In this condition upper sphincter of esophagus allow the acidic content of stomach to come up in esophagus and irritate upper respiratory tract . Due to this acidic environment body produce excess saliva to neutralize the condition .

I would suggest you to consult gastroentrologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may order test to check acidic ph , X-ray of digestive system ,endoscopy or esophageal mobility test .

Doctor may prescribe antacid to neutralize acid like maalox , H2 blocker like ranitidine and proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole . Some times surgery can also be an option . For now avoid heavy ( large quantity and fried) and spicy meals , avoid late night eating , eat 1-2 hour before going to bed , avoid alcohol or smoking ( if you doing ) .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
