Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to an
occipital neuralgia.
It may be related to a cervical column disorder (like a slipped disk or just degenerative changes).
The fact that this is a new headache, never experienced before, is concerning for a secondary headache.
I recommend consulting with a
neurologist for a careful physical examination for neurological signs, a cervical column x ray study and some lab blood tests (
complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate).
A brain CT scan may be necessary to exclude a possible lesion of the brain (although less possible because your pain is not typical of these disorders, which cause exacerbation of the pain, mainly in the morning).
Meanwhile, I would recommend taking painkillers like
acetaminophen or
ibuprofen.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
