What Causes Stammering In A Toddler?

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter started stammering last week and it is getting increasing more pronounced. What might be the cause? No injuries or no known health issues. We are a divorced couple in the last year. I (mom) have custody & she visits dad every other weekend.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Genetic factors, neurological factors or developmental stuttering may cause problems in this age. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Boys with genetic factors and below 4 years of age are more at the risk of developing stuttering.

Speech therapy may be useful for recovery. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
