Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had battery changed metronix pacemaker. My surgeon was also anesthesiologist . 10 days later I got staph infection . I m 100%dependant. How does one get this kind of infection. P/m was removed 6hr surgery. New one installed 5 days later right side 5 hr surgery
I had gone through your medical history and understood your concerns. Your anxiety is of worth as this was an issue with heart.
Medtronic pacemaker is used to make the heart to beat in a rhythmic way. Heart rate and rhythm may change with increased age. It is a good thing that you had gone for a pace maker surgery.
But there will be always disadvantages for any surgery. In the same way, for this surgery there may be post operative infection to the patient. Most common infection is by staphylococcus. As there will be opening in body, infection of staph occurs which is present in more abundant in air.
Coming to management part 1. use antibiotics for staph 2. maintain hygiene room aatmospher 3. take more rest
Hope you would be better with this pace maker for long time.
