Our 10 month old son has had a very heavy cold for over a week now. We have noticed today his ears have a sticky runny discharge from them which we have wiped gently with cotton wool but it keeps appearing. Is this due to his cold and will it go in time or should we take him to the GP
The commonest causes are as follows: * Inflammation of adenoids * Inflamed Eustachian tube through which the nasopharyngeal fluid enters into the middle ear * The fluid discharge with pressure can rupture the eardrums * Since the discharge is from nasopharynx and adenoid, it is obviously sticky
Consult your pediatrician and/or ENT surgeon. Nasal and oral decongestant for a 10 month old baby. Antibiotic if the discharge is suspected to have bacterial infection. Further management as per the advise of a pediatrician and ENT surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
