What Causes Sticky Discharge From The Ears?

I am 67 and in good health. I wear hearing aids in both ears and have been for 6 years. For the past month, there is a clear sticky liquid running behind one ear. It is so bad that I wake up with a wet spot on my pillow. It scabs over but after I shampoo my hair it starts running again

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Most of the time, your ears discharge earwax.

This is an oil that your body naturally produces.

It is produced to clear bacteria from the ear canal.

No treatment is needed.

In case of pain or other symptoms, a physical examination is needed by an ENT specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
